ASSISTANT TO ESTIMATING AND PURCHASING

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 10 years residential and commercial construction experience in the carpentry field
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related field preferred; experience may be considered in lieu of education
COMPENSATION: Negotiable based on experience & education
SUMMARY: ABC is looking for an Assistant Estimator to work in cooperation with the Head Estimator preparing labor & material estimates for self-performed Carpentry work. This position will also be responsible for managing this work as it is awarded to ABC.
DETAILS: The list below describes the position’s major responsibilities, and candidate qualifications:
•This position estimates all the labor and material needs for the 25 full-time carpenters and laborers working for ABC.
•Must have a good understanding of building construction, including methods & materials.
•Performs material, labor and equipment takeoffs from blueprints and/or site visits.
•Able to read and understand blueprints and project specifications with a good understanding of construction methods, materials and requirements.
•Able to work with deadlines and have a willingness to learn; must be looking to become a construction professional.
•Solicits material quotations and is able to write thorough and cohesive bills of materials which will become Purchase Orders.
•Prepares submittals on the materials to be provided by ABC.
•Performs quantity take-offs including labor & material for carpentry work self performed by ABC.
•Periodically forecasts the cost at completion for the work on hand.
•Communicates extensively with vendors, architects, engineers and some clients.
•Excellent organizational, computer, and communications skills required.
•Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new software applications such as our database estimating software, Timberline Estimating.
•Must have the ability to proactively build relationships with office, field staff and clients.
•Assists the IT Manager and outside consultants in providing ongoing IT system maintenance to ensure its reliability and continuous operation including: Local Area Network (LAN); connectivity with other systems; desktop and portable workstations; system wide back-up and recovery plan; security/fire wall and virus protection plan; photocopiers/printers/scanners; telephones, Blackberries, and cellular phones
•Upgrade & manage estimating database
