NEWPORT COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - BUSINESS EXPO
On Tuesday, March 18, 2008 Jeff Brooks and Pam Douglas of ABC worked to help man the Newport County Contractors Association booth at the Newport County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, held at the Newport Hyatt Hotel at Goat Island. USGBC RHODE ISLAND INTRODUCTORY MEETING
On Thursday, May 15, 2008, Jeff Brooks attended an introductory meeting for the Rhode Island Chapter of the USGBC at New England Tech in Warwick, RI. Several other contractors and architects, such as Dimeo Construction, Gilbane Building Company, Robinson Green Beretta and Newport Collaborative Architects were also in attendance. Due to the very large turnout at this meeting, it was obvious that this was more than an interest group. It is evident that there is enough interest to take the necessary steps to organize a chapter of the Rhode Island USGBC in the future. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 19th at New England Tech.

REBUILDING TOGETHER
On Saturday, April 26th, John Brooks, along with Jeff and Andrew Brooks, Steve Shoppell and Kevin Chamberlin participated in Rebuilding Together, formerly known as Christmas in April, helping to renovate a house in Providence for a very worthy gentleman who is active in that community. This project was coordinated through Associated Builders and Contractors of Rhode Island, of which ABC is a member. Thank you to all of you for representing ABC in this effort.

ABC IS NOW A USGBC MEMBER
ABC is now a member of the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council). The USGBC is a non-profit organization that certifies sustainable businesses, homes, hospitals, schools and neighborhoods, and is dedicated to expanding green buidling practices and education and its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.

As a USGBC national member, ABC will join a community of more than 13,000 member organizations who are proving that we can green the built environment and benefit the bottom line. As a chapter member, ABC can network locally and participate in regional events. With our membership we plan on attending courses and classes to improve our knowledge in sustainable construction and our clients will have more efficient homes and businesses. We hope to have a few LEED Accredited Professionals working for ABC by the year’s end, with the hope of expanding even further down the road.

Whether you are new to green building or already deeply involved in shaping the future of green design, USGBC is the best connection to the people, knowledge and tools you need to leverage green building throughout your business.
